This is one of the first poems I remember writing. It swam around in my head for years after I’d written it, before eventually finding a place in my first collection.
Pets make notoriously good material for poetry – whether you love your pet, wish you had one or know a pet who belongs to someone else – I think pets and poetry go hand in hand.
If you don’t have a pet of your own have fun writing a poem about a made up pet. It doesn’t have to be real – what if you had a dragon for a pet? Or a dinosaur who only eats ice-cream?
If you write a poem about your pet, I’d love to read it and share it if you’d like! Email charliebownauthor@outlook.com
